Trash to Treasure Sale
Grosses Over $55,000

On Saturday, May 31, 2008, Penn State and the Centre County United Way, along with hundreds of volunteers, joined forces to stage the seventh annual Trash to Treasure sale.

65.4 tons of items—which were donated by 14,000 Penn State students at the end of spring semester—were sold to the community, grossing over $55,000 for the Centre County United Way.

In addition to the items sold, Penn State students donated over 8,000 pounds of food.

Each spring, Penn State students who live on campus are encouraged to donate unwanted items to the Trash to Treasure program, which is a cooperative effort between Penn State and the Centre County United Way. Collection barrels for donations are placed on the first floor of all residence halls during the last week of spring semester, and certain areas are designated for rugs and furniture. The donations are then picked up, sorted, and sold at Beaver Stadium. The seventh annual Trash to Treasure Sale was held in May 2008.
